Thanks to everyone who participated in the Rubber Ducky Race on Sunday afternoon, September 20th! Lots of Action and Lots of Fun! More than 350 ducks competed in four heats and a final race off! Shepherdstown’s Mayor James Gatz counted down for the start of each heat and Patrick Green, President of the Shepherdstown Community Club, identified the winners jointly with Town Run neighbor Suzie Patrick.
Lots of kids (of all ages) carefully tracked the progress of their ducks, advancing theirs and/or slowing down opponents with the help of Super Soakers, making for some intense competition! Prizes were awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and “wooden spoon” for Rock Hill ice cream, Mountaineer popcorn, and more!
We are grateful to the 12 wonderful Community volunteers, easily identified by the ducky hats they were wearing, who ensured the event ran smoothly. Volunteers included enthusiastic announcer Carolyn Thomas, who gave the play-by-play, official race-starter Greg Welter, super-shooter salesperson Mark Outhier, Crossing Guards Peggy Bowers and Diane Niedzialkowski, “stuckduck-dislodgers” Shelley Feist and neighbor Ben, ticket sales by Evelyn Gettys and Diane Fulton, and all-around support from Rebecca Parmesano and Nan Johnson made for an awesome time! Special thanks to MJ’s and the Dogwood Store for selling tickets!
Members of the Community had lots of fun, made new friends, and took delight in Town Run – what’s better than that?! Come join us next fall too! Looking forward to celebrating with everyone again!
