Film Night Recap: World’s Most Scenic River Journeys – The Potomac River

This past December, community members gathered at the Shepherdstown Opera House for a special screening of World’s Most Scenic River Journeys: The Potomac River. The evening brought together residents, partners, and watershed supporters for a shared experience centered on one of our region’s most important natural and cultural resources—the Potomac River.

From Civil War history at Harpers Ferry to the historic grounds of Mount Vernon, the film traced the river’s path through time and landscape, highlighting the beauty, complexity, and heritage of what is often called the “Nation’s River.” Community members attending the screening helped support Town Run Watershed conservation efforts through donations collected during the event.

About the Film

World’s Most Scenic River Journeys: The Potomac River (Series 2, Episode 8) follows the Potomac from its headwaters in West Virginia to the Chesapeake Bay. This roughly hour-long documentary explores the river’s pivotal role in American history while showcasing its ecological and cultural significance across multiple regions.

The film captures not only scenic landscapes but also the deep connections between communities and the river that continues to shape them today.

Looking Ahead

Events like this film night help connect our community to the broader watershed story and remind us why local conservation efforts matter. Town Run Watershed Group continues to build on these connections through restoration projects, education, and community engagement.
