2025 Chesapeake Bay Watershed Forum Poster Session

Creating a Culture of Care: Town Run at the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Forum

At this year’s Chesapeake Bay Watershed Forum, the Town Run Watershed Steering Committee presented its poster titled “Creating a Culture of Care.” The title reflects our goal of building a lasting community ethic—one where caring for Town Run is as natural as walking its banks.

“Culture” speaks to shared values and continuity; “care” expresses both responsibility and affection. Together, they describe the heart of our work: connecting people, science, and place in ways that inspire long-term stewardship.

Poster Theme

Our design centered on several key ideas:

  • Clarity & Accessibility: Making environmental science understandable and meaningful for every community member.

  • Visual Storytelling: Using imagery and narrative to lift data off the page and into people’s hearts.

  • Evidence of Impact: Highlighting volunteer hours, water-quality data, and educational programs within a hopeful story of collaboration.

  • Partnership & Inclusion: Featuring the many hands involved—volunteers, students, Riverkeepers, scientists, and residents.

A Narrative of Connection

The poster is structured as a visual journey. The main image—of a child emerging from Town Run smiling, muddy, and wearing a “Just Do It” shirt—captures what our project is all about: hands-on learning, joy, and real community involvement.

Each action word—Cleaning, Educating, Treasuring, Collaborating, Monitoring, Impacting—represents both a measurable activity and a deeply held value.

An inset map traces Town Run’s path through Shepherdstown, reminding us how intimately the stream is woven into daily life.

Why It Matters

Town Run’s story is grounded in real results:

  • Hundreds of volunteer hours

  • Strong partnerships with schools, Riverkeepers, and scientific organizations

  • Expanding water-quality data

  • Growing public engagement

But beyond the numbers, our poster tells a story of pride, stewardship, and community connection.

An Invitation

“Creating a Culture of Care” doesn’t just document our work—it invites others to join it. The poster reflects the spirit of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Forum itself: people coming together to protect the waters that connect us all.
