Remarkable Trees with Robin McGrorty

November 4 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

In drought or flood the problem is the same, “how to get water into the ground?” Luckily Nature has been working on this problem for some time and has come up with ingenious solutions, many involving trees. Join arborist turned children’s Nature Educator Robin McGrorty to learn the remarkable ways trees tend to the health of our water cycle and streams.

Bio: Robin has had a wandering path much like that of a river. Born and raised in the UK near Stonehenge, Robin trained in fashion design at a university in Birmingham, England, before working in tailoring and then costume making. While making costumes for the 2012 London Olympics, Robin became more aware of the environmental concerns of the time and decided to shift his focus. He completed a Permaculture Design Certificate and then went on to complete a 2-year Biodynamic Farming and Gardening Apprenticeship where he met his wife, Cindy Powers.

Together they moved to Boulder, Colorado where Robin began working and training as an arborist. As an arborist, Robin has worked in various environments from the high plains desert in the foothills of the CO Rocky Mountains, to the Willamette Valley and Portland, OR, to the Potomac valley MD/WV. He has planted, pruned, maintained, and removed trees for homeowners, the City of Portland, and the National Parks Service.

Today, Robin has retired form arborist work and runs his own company Wandering Oak LLC where he connects children with nature and ancestral skills. He is also the current Chair of the Shepherdstown Tree Commission.
